About Jan Pohl

A short biography

Born and raised in Hannover, Germany, Jan started drumming at the age of 12. His first musical influences were Nirvana and The Beatles, which formed the base for his powerful, yet always song oriented playing. He was soon recognized by the local music scene and joined the rockband “Mellow Sirens” for their national debut. At the age of 19 he was already touring Germany, playing high-profile events like "Rock am Ring" and "Hurricane" festival.

In 2000 he moved to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to study drums at the Conservatoire of Rotterdam. Over the last 10 years Jan has worked with many national and international producers and artists such as Mike Garson (David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails), George Kooymans (Golden Earring) and Colin Benders (Kyteman).

Besides his work as an independent drummer, he is the backbone of Austin, Texas based artist Patricia Vonne since 2010. In 2013 he played with her more than 50 shows all over Europe including the famous “Montreux Jazz Festival” in Switzerland.

In May 2014 he recorded Judy Blank’s debut-album “When the storm hits”. The album will be released in July 12th 2014 at the “North Sea Jazz Festival” in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Jan will also perform with the 19-year-old singer/songwriter during her 1st clubtour from September until November all over The Netherlands.

Besides his work as a drummer Jan is gaining a very good reputation as a producer in the Rotterdam-based studio community “RealMusicRoom”.

Gear

Paiste, Ludwig & Remo are not my first choice - they are the only choice to me!

Gear

I am very proud to endorse the two best companies in drums for rock music and beyond: Paiste cymbals and Ludwig drums. I endorse Paiste for nearly 15 years (since 2000) and Ludwig for 7 years (since 2007).

These two brands are synonym for the birth and sound of rock music in the 60's and stood the test of time. Today these brands still are the first choice in ever studio on this planet. Ludwig drums have the power, rawness and pure tone that makes me feel like home when I am just starting to build up my kit and checking my drums. Paiste cymbals have the clarity, sweetness, power and perfection that fit in every beat that I play perfectly.
